ABOUT: Timea Göghova
Soulful, sultry, passionate singer Timea Göghova is back with her latest single and video, evocative piano ballad “Stand Up.”
Göghova has released a series of quality singles in the last several months. Recent video single “Stranded,” which featured the guitar work of Mikail Kuhnert, is a strong, empowering track with an equally impressive video. Not long before that she issued “No More Tears,” another passionate ballad, with guitarist Thomas Archinal.
“Stand Up” finds Göghova going back to her roots, as it features Caro D’lirium on the piano rather than a guitar, like many of her early singles in such as “Wild Storm” and “Wasted.” The song is led, of course, by the strong voice of Göghova, who gives a stunning vocal performance as always. Musically, the piano plays long, lush chords that compliment her voice perfectly.
As on her other singles, the lyrics of “Stand Up,” which tell the story of the disillusion of a relationship, are emotional and affective. “Broken/completely messed up/doors closed/there’s no way back for us/see my life in pieces of glass” she sings with her usual vigor.
The video for “Stand Up” has the same professional style of all her other releases. Instead of the nature background of her last few singles, it focuses solely on Göghova, who belts the songs in a variety of backdrops. The video works well at focusing on her performance, especially vocally.
“Stand Up” builds as the song goes on, leading to some especially strong vocals by Göghova on the last few lines.
If you love strong, passionate ballads, you’ll love “Stand Up.”
