A SPIDER NAME OCHO
The song is the inner narrative of a young man looking at a young lady (he thinks he loves) who has always blamed herself for the trouble she finds herself in. Even though she is not asking for it, he finds himself defending her position in life and coming to terms with why things will never work out between the two of them. It’s an inner conversation between the torn sides of himself. It’s about love and acceptance.
”A Spider named Ocho” is a basement indie rock music project currently based out of farmland New Jersey, with a list of various musical collaborators from the punk, rock, jazz and pop genres. The project itself started as an untitled music project by Charley Ruegger in 2016 in Oakland, CA (formerly of The Stereo Police and The Love Robots). After co-founding and playing with The Love Robots (active since 2020), playing stages like Rockwood and the Bowery in NYC and Crossroads in NJ, Charley decided to pick back up A Spider named Ocho in early 2024 with years worth of backlogged materials. Savings have slowly been funneled into upgrading recording gear and the selection of instruments, more wholly transforming the project into a recording machine!
The project is purely a studio project for the time being. Charley is a multi-instrumentalist (vocals, guitar, piano, bass, drums), but prefers to play guitar and is the lead vocalist for A Spider named Ocho. Charley works full-time in finance, is married, is a father to a one-year-old and has a passion for cars. But his greatest passion for the last 22 years has been writing and recording music.
Influences include David Bowie, Radiohead, The Pixies, Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Incubus, Cage the Elephant, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Wilco and too many more to count.
